Answer: To build a long term career teaching yoga, you have to stay FLEXIBLE. And not in the way you think. 😆⁣
⁣
Sure, it’s important for teachers to maintain and grow their own yoga practice, but more importantly you have to stay adaptable and resilient mentally and emotionally. Yoga trends, client needs, and business environments are constantly changing, requiring flexibility to embrace new teaching methods, explore diverse offerings, or pivot when things aren’t working.⁣
⁣
For example, I’ve gone through a few waves of challenge now in my decade+ career teaching yoga full-time. I’ve moved cities, endured the total fitness shutdown that was covid, and faced a beach yoga ban by San Diego that ended my years-long run teaching public donation classes at Sunset Cliffs. But I’ve used each redirection as a chance to find and create improved growth in my business rather than let it defeat me or convince me I should get a “real job.”⁣
⁣
The best way for teachers to stay flexible and thrive is to really run your career as a business and embrace the identity of a Yogipreneur. Building your own business outside of a studio or gym structure ensures you have more stability and control over your classes and what services you offer, and when. This means that even when sh*t happens (because it will! That’s the ride of life), you’re able to bend and adapt instead of break. ⁣

Staying adaptable opens you up to opportunities for growth and innovation—whether it’s experimenting with online classes, collaborating with other teachers/wellness brands, or offering new services to meet evolving client preferences. Being adaptable ensures you’re not just surviving but THRIVING in your yoga business. 🧘🏻‍♀️⁣
