I read this recently on a post from my friend @ashleymarandhealth and DIED. Because that second one hits home, and maybe it did for you too. 😆⁣
⁣
I never thought I’d be teaching yoga for a living. In fact, when I was younger, I had a career building as a writer—I went to film school and worked on numerous television shows like Mad Men and The Vampire Diaries after college.⁣
⁣
But I was still young and battling a whole army of internal demons. I had crippling anxiety and unprocessed trauma and I found myself turning into someone I didn’t want to be. I was stressed, and angry, and I took it out on the people around me. I knew I needed to change, to free myself from the pain and find joy in life again, and to learn to trust + love without fear.⁣
⁣
So I did a deep dive into healing. I studied yoga, meditation, and other wellness forms for years. And the most helpful tool for when my anxiety shows up is still this practice: to fully let myself be here, now. To feel the peace and power that resides in just being in this moment. 💖⁣
⁣
Healing is a lifelong journey. I’m not perfect, but I do find my old self unrecognizable at this point. Leaning into joy and practicing kindness to all things has changed my life. And now I get to help you change yours! What a gift.⁣

Whenever you feel overwhelmed, bring yourself back to this moment. Remember what a marvel it is just to be alive. Breathe into your body and tell yourself you are safe. Notice the beauty around you, from the paintbrush strokes of clouds above to the march of ants underfoot. Be here now. ✨⁣

Savasana isn’t just the end of a yoga class—it’s t Savasana isn’t just the end of a yoga class—it’s the final integration moment. It’s the most important part of any asana (movement) yoga practice. And it’s where I get to hold space for my clients one last time. 💖⁣

…it’s also where I tiptoe around delivering take-home affirmation cards to everyone as a surprise for when they sit back up. I’ll gather cloths for cleaning the yoga mats, tap into the healing energy of the moment, and take some breaths before gently closing out the class.⁣

These are 3 of my go-to mobility and breathing exercises when I feel anxious, overstimulated, or stuck in overthinking. They can be done anywhere, anytime, and will help you calm your nervous system and improve your breathing.⁣
⁣
1. Overhead Side Reaches: Exhale as you reach your arm up and over to the side. Inhale as you bring it back down. Alternate.⁣
⁣
2. Arm Swings: Inhale three times as you swing your arms, open mouth exhale as you fold forward.⁣
⁣
3. Belly Breathing: Place your hands on your heart and belly. Breathe into your belly, followed by your chest. Hold at the top. Exhale chest, then belly. Hold the exhale. ⁣
⁣
It just takes a few intentional moments to change how you feel. Just posting this helped me feel better! Breathe. ✨⁣
