One year ago, on May 8, the @cityofsandiego began One year ago, on May 8, the @cityofsandiego began their Yoga Ban by driving three park ranger trucks onto the precarious edge of Sunset Cliffs and created a barricade of officers to prevent me and my 10 or so students from setting up our mats to practice yoga at sunset. They told me I was irresponsible as a leader for not knowing about this new law that they sprung on us—yet no one, not the media nor any yoga teachers were given any kind of notification this ban was coming. I haven’t stopped fighting back since that day.⁣ ⁣ Shortly after my class shutdown, the SD rangers came for everyone teaching Donation Yoga classes along the coastline. They outlined where we’re allowed to get permits to do yoga, and it’s only a few parks in the city, nothing near the coast. They’ve falsely told media outlets and courts that I’ve never tried to apply for permits (I have and continue to, plus teachers had written permission from the park rangers prior to all this that it was OK to do yoga on the Cliffs as long as it was free and less than 50 people, which is how we were out there for so long).⁣ ⁣ The teachers of San Diego have united to work against this aggressive and unfair ban that affects not just me or them, but truly the whole culture and community of SD, known for its active outdoor lifestyle. @namasteveyoga and I are still in the midst of an ongoing lawsuit against the city. ⁣ ⁣ All we’re asking for is the ability to get permits and for us and our students to be allowed to do enjoy the practice of yoga outside, especially when the classes are not charged. We accept donations but never require anyone to pay, we do this out of pure love for yoga and for the community. Though many find it hard to believe, I was never bringing home much money from all this. I hope that we can be allowed to host classes on the beach and again at shoreline parks like Sunset Cliffs—not just Mission Bay. It seems easy for the city to provide permits that limit class size, location crowding, and stress for all like other events, yet they refuse. Us yoga teachers are just trying to make the world (and San Diego) a better place. ⁣ ⁣ Thank you all for your support 🙏🏼💖 This fight is for you!

I love having the opportunity to guest teach in this incredible space—picture yoga on a koi pond deck at the bottom of a long winding path of cherry blossom trees and traditional Japanese landscaping. It’s one of the best little-known experiences in San Diego! Your ticket even includes early entry to the garden, before it opens to the public (and it is typically quite busy!). Join mobile yoga studio Mind Body Badass every Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 pm for a Sunset Slow Flow Donation Yoga class at the Point Loma Marina, on the lawn at @jimmys_famous. 🧘🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ I used to teach this class every week, but paused it for the winter and it’s been on hiatus since I’ve moved to Palm Springs. But even though I can’t be there to teach the classes myself, I’ve lined up a rotating schedule of some of the best yoga teachers in San Diego to guide you through your weekly practice. And I promise to make a guest appearance as often as I can. 😘⁣ ⁣ This class is open and accessible to all. All ages and experience levels welcome (including beginners!).
